Evolv eXpedite™ FAQ: What to Know About Modern Bag Screening Technology

Organizations today need security solutions that are accurate, efficient, and easy to operate, especially in environments where screening is managed by everyday staff such as teachers, administrators or office managers, not security experts.
Below are key questions and answers about Evolv eXpedite™, designed to help you better understand how the system works and where it fits within a modern layered security strategy.
What is Evolv eXpedite™?
Evolv eXpedite™ is designed from the ground up to detect concealed weapons in bags using X-ray imaging and AI that distinguishes many potential threats from many everyday items.
With Evolv eXpedite, security staff don’t need to continuously monitor a computer screen to identify potential threats and determine whether tosearch a bag or not. And they don’t need specific training to interpret an X-ray image.
What technology does Evolv eXpedite™ use?
Evolv eXpedite™ uses AI and dual-energy high-speed X-ray imaging technology to screen bags and personal items.
Dual-energy X-ray technology is an advanced security screening method that simultaneously measures X-rays at two energy levels to analyze the inherent material properties of scanned objects. Differences in these properties produce distinct contrast in the dual-energy data, which an ML model analyzes to detect and identify potential threats inside bags.
Why this matters:
- Through dual-energy high-speed x-ray imaging technology, eXpedite supports more accurate detection of a wide range of threat items
- AI enables automated analysis to assist operators through AI
- Through a combination of dual-energy and AI, we deliver consistent performance across varied screening conditions
How does Evolv eXpedite™ simplify the screening experience?
Evolv eXpedite™ is designed with a simplified, intuitive output to support ease of use.
Instead of requiring complex image interpretation by a human, the system provides:
- Red light/green light indicators to signal whether a bag requires attention
- Automated conveyor control, which stops on the bag where further inspection is needed
- Clear, focused alerts that guide operator action
- A connected tablet that shows the bag’s image and an X-ray image to support threat response
Why this approach is important:
- Many environments, such as schools and workplaces, rely on staff like teachers, administrators, or front office personnel to support security operations.
This simplified approach:
- Reduces the need for extensive operator training
- Helps limit uncertainty, providing decision-supporting cues to support uniform screening practices and limit subjective decision-making in fast-moving environments
- Enables staff to confidently manage screening while staying focused on their primary responsibilities
Can Evolv eXpedite™ be used with other security systems?
Yes. Evolv eXpedite™ can operate as a standalone bag screening system or as part of a layered security solution.
Deployment options include:
- Standalone use for entry points requiring bag screening
- Paired with Evolv Express®, allowing organizations to screen people and bags within a coordinated Evolv deployment
Together, eXpedite and Express create a unified system, enabling people to walk through security at the pace of life.
When paired with Evolv Express:
- Alerts from both systems can be displayed on a single tablet interface
- Operators can monitor both people and bag screening from one unified view
The result:
- A coordinated and efficient screening process
- Improved visibility across multiple screening technologies
- Greater flexibility to meet the needs of different environments
Where is Evolv eXpedite™ typically used?
Evolv eXpedite™ is designed for real-world, high-traffic environments where both efficiency and ease of use are critical.
Common applications include:
- Schools and educational institutions
- Workplaces and corporate office buildings
- Healthcare facilities including hospital ambulance bay areas
- Event venues and public spaces
The system supports:
- Steady throughput with a conveyor-based screening experience
- Clear, actionable outputs for operators
- A streamlined security process for guests and staff

How does Evolv eXpedite work and how many bags can be screened per hour?
People can place their bags on the eXpedite conveyer belt as they are walking through the security checkpoint. The eXpedite belt moves quickly, allowing people to drop and collect their bags while maintaining a regular walking pace.
Evolv eXpedite can screen up to 2,000+ bags per hour*. Throughput may vary based on a venue’s bag policy and alarm resolution process, visitor walking pace, bag size, and alarm rate.
How many bags have been screened by Evolv eXpedite™ to date?
In November of 2025, we surpassed one million bags screened across our customer base, and in 2026, we have been screening an average 150K bags per weekday, a powerful signal of eXpedite’s impact backed by real-world performance data.
Early deployment results of eXpedite show a ~2% alert rate in education settings, demonstrating strong promise in balancing detection with the goal of keeping false alarm rates low.
