Spartanburg School District Five Reports Efficient Security Experience Since Deploying Evolv Express® and Evolv eXpedite™

Survey of 1,000+ students highlight efficient security screening and overall positive entry experience with Evolv
WALTHAM, Mass. (April 30, 2026) – Spartanburg School District Five in South Carolina has partnered with Evolv Technologies Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: EVLV), a leading security technology company pioneering AI-based solutions designed to create safer experiences since 2022, and today announced the impact advanced security screening has had on their students and staff. The findings highlight overall positive student sentiment, efficient arrival flow, and strong system usability at Byrnes High School in Duncan, South Carolina. The results combine a district-led survey conducted by the high school of more than 1,000 students, as well as feedback from school staff, contracted security personnel, and system analytics from Evolv’s platform, Evolv Insights®.
Spartanburg School District Five uses a combination of Evolv Express® systems on its 14-school campus, and Evolv eXpedite™ units at their high school as part of their layered security approach to school entry. According to the survey results, the high school students indicated that the process of going through new security was easy to learn, with 94.8% saying they usually knew where to walk and where to place their belongings, and 83.5% of high school students described the routine as easy or very easy to understand. In addition, 92.2% of high school students reported feeling neutral or positive about the system, while around 57% said they felt safer knowing a safety system was in place.
Evolv Insights data shows that the high school supports smooth student flow going through security screening during peak morning arrival (6:00–9:00 am). The school recorded an average clear rate* of 90.7% and an average daily volume of approximately 3,100 students across Express systems. Additionally, from October to March 2025, the average alert rate with the Evolv eXpedite bag scanner at peak morning arrival was 1.5% across more than 336,000 screened bags reflecting how the system is operating well within established school procedures. More than 90.5% of school staff and 92.4% of contracted security personnel surveyed rated the system as user-friendly.
“The findings bring together student feedback and daily operational data in a way that’s meaningful for our schools,” said Ryan Cothran, Director of Safety and Emergency Services at Spartanburg School District Five. “It helps us understand how students are experiencing the routine and how consistency supports a smooth start to the day.”
“Our relationship with Spartanburg School District Five has been built over time through close collaboration and shared learning,” said Jill Lemond, VP of Education at Evolv. “By reviewing both student feedback and operational insights together, we can better support districts like Spartanburg School District Five as they focus on clear, consistent routines for students.”
Spartanburg School District Five’s security findings, which can be read in greater detail in Evolv’s new case study, offers a practical example of how survey feedback and operational insights can be used together to inform ongoing decision-making and support predictable, student-friendly school-day routines.
