Even if you are not ready for a web site, it is wise to secure a good domain name as soon as possible due to competition. Are you curious to see if the name you want is still available? Do not rely on entering a location in your browser and waiting for the "Not Found" message. It is always possible that the name is on a hold status.

Recommendations for choosing a good domain name:

1. Domain names must contain alpha-numeric characters and no characters such as the "&" or "<".
2. Domain names must be 26 characters or less with 16 being the preferred maximum.
3. .com extensions are always the preferred choice
4. Use spelled out words, no abbreviations or acronyms
5. Use keywords or company names that would explain what your web site is all about or what people might search for on search engines when looking for your product/service.
6. Use hyphens if the full name is not available (i.e. web-design.com) (Note: sometimes this can be better for search engines to find keywords that are separated by hyphens)
7. Purchase more than one domain name to secure different variations using your company name or keywords and forward them to one main domain name
